Moment of Inertia Lab

Moment of Inertia Lab

Both rotors get the same push. Move the weights in or out and compare how fast each one ends up spinning.

ARotor A

Torque on

Acceleration α (rad/s²)

Velocity ω (rad/s)

Speed (rpm)

BRotor B

Torque on

Acceleration α (rad/s²)

Velocity ω (rad/s)

t = 0.0 s

Angular velocity over time

The torque acts for 2 seconds, then stops and each rotor keeps its speed. I = 2mr² treats each weight as a point mass on a rod with no mass of its own.
